Marta was a member of the Brazilian National Team that won a silver medal at the 2004 summer Olympic game. That same year Marta was named the Golden Ball at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship. She scored 6 goals in the tournament, and Brazil finished fourth.
In 2006 and 2007 Marta was the FIFA Women’s World Player of the year, and in 2007 in the Women’s World Cup she won the Golden Ball award as the best player again, and she won the Golden Boot award as the topscorer of the tournament.

Pelé contacts Marta.

In July 2007, Marta and the Brazilian National Team for women beat the US U-20 National Team and won the Pan American Games at the famous Estádio do Maracanã. Marta was compared to the legendary soccer player Pelé by the Brazilian fans, and they called her Pelé with skirts. Pelé himself agreed with the comparison.
Marta has stated that Pelé called her after the victory. Marta was very happy to hear that one of the greatest players ever followed her and the team.

The 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Marta and the Brazilian National Team participated in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Brazil won all three games in their group and Marta scored in the first two games. In the quarter final Brazil won over Australia and Marta scored 2-0 from penalty spot. Marta also scored in the semi-final, she scored two goals. They played against the United States and won 4-0. Brazil and Marta was not able to go all the way, they lost the final to Germany 2-0. She was named the best player of the tournament in the end.
